The VAPOUR project will provide the next generation, space-geodetic, high-quality, spatiotemporal, asymmetric (Slant Total Delay (STD) in addition to legacy Zenith Total Delay (ZTD) and gradients (GRD)) tropospheric products, to improve numerical weather prediction (NWP) models for forecasting and derived re-analysis models on national and international levels. VAPOUR will employ Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) observations, including those of the European Galileo, and Synthetic Aperture Radar Interferometry (InSAR) data, such as from the Copernicus Sentinel missions.
The advanced products will take better account of the distribution of atmospheric water vapour within the troposphere, which is the most prominent greenhouse gas and is directly linked to precipitation and weather. Most current GNSS-derived tropospheric products do not fully account for these variations or suffer from unresolved issues such as multipath and the development of such products from SAR data is still largely experimental.

With the interest of the meteorological services for these products growing, VAPOUR is timely and highly relevant.

2019 has been a busy year for ESA’s NAVISP programme. We would like to share our successes and achievements with you during the second edition of our NAVISP Industry Days. The event is planned to take place in ESTEC, Noordwijk, The Netherlands, on 22nd – 23 January 2020.

More than 150 participants attended last year’s event, exchanging views on a wide range of engaging presentations on the fore-front of Positioning, Navigation and Timing technology.

The Precise Time and Time Interval Systems and Applications (PTTI) meeting is an annual conference sponsored by ION with a technical program designed to disseminate and coordinate PTTI information at the user level, review present and future PTTI requirements, inform government and industry engineers, technicians, and managers of precise time and frequency technology and its problems, and provide an opportunity for an active exchange of new technology associated with PTTI.

ION’s winter meeting, the International Technical Meeting (ITM), is a more intimate conference with a technical program related to positioning, navigation and timing and includes the ION Fellows and Annual Awards presentations.

In 2020, PTTI will be co-located with the ION International Technical Meeting, in San Diego, California.

Im Rahmen der erfolgreichen Serie der AHORN – Tagungen lädt die Deutsche Gesellschaft für Ortung und Navigation in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Österreichischen Verein für Navigation und dem Schweizer Institut für Navigation zur Dreiländertagung AHORN 2019 am 11. – 12. The two day conference will bring together companies and organisations such as National Coastguards, Senior Arctic Government Officials, Shipping Companies, LNG Projects, Lawyers, P&I Clubs, Arctic Researchers and Lecturers and many more. This will allow for an interactive and open conference which can provide each agent with as much networking and discussion as possible.

We will explore the advancements in policy and regulation, as well as the updates on the Polar Code. In addition to this, there will be discussions on effectively enhancing Arctic search and rescue and how to navigate a geopolitical shift in the Arctic.

The Asia Navigation Conference (ANC) has been started as a joint symposium of Korean Institute of Navigation and Port Research (KINPR), China Institute of Navigation (CIN) and Japan Institute of Navigation (JIN) from 2002, and now expands its border to all Asian countries.

The aim of the conference is to share the experience and knowledge on Navigation and Port Research, and also to discuss on Marine Science and Technology among Asian countries. Furthermore, this conference will bring experts and researchers of Asian countries together not only to exchange recent progress and trends but also to promote mutual developments in navigation, port and related fields.

Op vrijdag 11 oktober 2019 organiseert het Nederlands Instituut voor Navigatie samen met de Nederlandse Vereniging voor Ruimtevaart (NVR) een workshop ‘Galileo Status en Toepassingen’. Het doel van de workshop is om voor de Nederlandse gebruiker te laten zien wat Galileo is, hoe het werkt en wat voor toepassingen er zijn.

De workshop zal doorgaan bij het Galileo Reference Centre te Noordwijk. Dagvoorzitter is Wim Ploeg, Senior Beleidscoördinator Ministerie van Infrastructuur en Waterstaat (I&M).

ION GNSS+ is the world’s largest technical meeting and showcase of GNSS technology, products and services. This year’s conference will bring together international leaders in GNSS and related positioning, navigation and timing fields to present new research, introduce new technologies, discuss current policy, demonstrate products and exchange ideas.

Short courses will be provided on Monday on a complimentary basis to all paid registrants at ION GNSS+ with the compliments of the Satellite Division and the ION Master Instructors. ION Master Instructors are internationally recognized GNSS experts and educators. All of the ION Masters have generously donated their time and talents to this effort, as a service to the GNSS community, with the ION’s gratitude.

The CASSCA 2019 Conference will explore the current state of the art in autonomous vehicles development, from the often disparate perspectives of government, industry and academic institutions. Plenary speakers, representing the wide variety of interests and perspectives on autonomous vehicles, will kick off the conference with insight into what these vehicles are capable of, and what interesting concepts are now within reach. Conference discussions will investigate the unique challenges and difficulties associated with addressing the needs of safety-critical applications in the deployment of autonomous vehicles. Crucial perspectives and important concerns from the trust, policy and ethics communities on the development and deployment of these vehicles will be heard. Technical success alone cannot secure widespread adoption and deployment of autonomous vehicles. Successful solutions will emerge from the combined efforts of scientists, engineers, and policy-makers.

This Galileo Science Colloquium brings together members of the European scientific community and their international partners involved in the use of Galileo and other GNSS in their research. The various possibilities to use Galileo and other GNSS satellites for scientific purposes shall be reviewed. The Colloquium contributes to GNSS development in general based on scientific approaches, in particular to raise awareness of those in charge of Galileo development and operations as well as in development of recent scientific achievements in the field.
